Interview with member Robyn Marjoribanks
Hey I am Robyn, a Outriders Member! My background has mainly been starting horses or taking the ride on quirky & misunderstood horses. Mostly focusing within the Dressage and hunter jumper disciplines. I recently moved up to 100 Mile House last summer in search of a quieter lifestyle.
Having managed a Hanoverian breeding farm, I’ve been head rider for producing young stock as well as having my own coaching and training business on the side. While rewarding, it definitely took a toll. There certainly are not enough hours in the day! Moving here has been a much needed break but I am excited to start back this spring!
Outriders Question: You have an impressive list of credentials—what are some of your most meaningful experiences in the horse world?
Thank you! I have to say that seeing students faces light up when a new skill clicks, or something like a first canter has to be top of the list. Being a part of milestones, big or small, is the most meaningful for me. It’s a journey for both riders and horses, and I am very lucky to have been a part of so many over the last decade.
Outriders Question: What disciplines or areas of horsemanship are you most passionate about?
Discipline wise my background is mostly in Hunter Jumper and Dressage. Basics are transferable across the board no matter the discipline; I believe every horse deserves a good, solid ground basis & start under saddle to make them good reliable ‘citizens’. I’m also a bit of a stickler when it comes down to horse care;I always want to see all of my students hold themselves to a high standard of care for their furry friends.
Outriders Question: What drew you to 100 Mile and what are you most excited to be part of?
The quieter lifestyle for sure; I don’t like having a too strict timeline with the horses so this has given me a breather to do things how I please at a pace suited to the horse. It’s very nice to be back in a smaller community although the horse side of it is massive in comparison to what I’m used to which is a lovely surprise! I am excited to get involved with the horse community and help out where needed.
Outriders Question: Have you noticed anything unique about our local equine scene compared to other places you’ve been?
The horse community here is very welcoming which has been fantastic. I also appreciate the vast diversity within the community which I find quite unique.
Outriders Question: Are you planning to offer any services, clinics, or mentorship opportunities here? And for the Outriders are you planning to host any specific events for members?
Yes, I plan to keep up my training and coaching business but at a more manageable scale. It’s been a life-long dream to work and teach on my own property, and I cannot wait to see how our facility grows with the community. There are plans in the works for a few fun evenings at the outriders, which will have some weekly dates released. Stay tuned for more info on those very soon!
Outriders Question: What’s one piece of advice you often give to fellow riders or horse owners?
Always be your horses best advocate as well as their student. Ride the horse you have today. Not the one you had yesterday. Not the one you want to have. The horse under you is the only one that matters.
Outriders Question: What are your goals or hopes for your involvement in our community?
To be able to share my knowledge and love for horses. I hope to help give a few junior riders the opportunity to ride at a higher level. While they are not my only disciplines, I do have a solid grounding in both Dressage and Jumping, so I’d like to offer opportunities for those who would like to try those out or widen their skill set!
Outriders Question: How can people connect with you, and is there anything else you’d like to share about what you offer to our community?
Phone/text is easiest. I try to keep my pages on social media (Facebook and instagram) up to date but that really isn’t my forte.
